Convey Computer Launches Hybrid-Core Memcached Appliance

Convey’s Newest Addition to the HC Series

The Convey HC Memcached appliance provides an order of magnitude higher throughput than commodity servers, while maintaining sub-millisecond response time. Additionally, the new Convey HC Memcached server dramatically reduces cost of ownership by slashing power, cooling, and maintenance costs.

The Memcached Challenge

Memcached is an open source, high-performance, distributed memory caching system used in data centres around the world. Eighty-five percent of top web sites and approximately fifty percent of the top 5,000 sites use this popular caching system. Yet, today’s ever increasing network traffic and rapidly growing datasets are presenting throughput and scalability challenges. Convey’s memcached appliance solves this problem by dramatically increasing throughput and reducing latency in a single platform.

SDSC Installs Convey HC Memcached Appliance

The San Diego Supercomputer Centre (SDSC) at the University of California, San Diego, installed a Convey HC Memcached appliance in July. “Data-enabled science puts extreme pressure on storage systems and intelligent use of tiered storage is an essential strategy to maintain throughput and minimise latency,” said SDSC Director, Mike Norman. “Convey’s Memcached appliances accelerate a key layer of the storage hierarchy, delivering high throughput even under heavy loads.”
