Eurotech Project – VMware Physical to Virtual Infrastructure
Eurotech Computer Services Ltd won a tender to provide the virtual infrastructure, professional services and consultancy in order to assist a UK council in converting their physical server and storage systems into a virtual environment. The solution included server and storage systems, networking and software, which was all being used to provide business critical services, a local backup and remote disaster recovery infrastructure.

This was achieved using Dell server and storage hardware, VMware vSphere 5.1, Veeam Backup and Replication software, with IBM LTFS (Linear Tape File System) backup storage – Full support contracts were supplied for all hardware and software solutions.

The project was phased, providing initial consultancy to analyse current system specifications and then specify capacity, performance and resilience requirements. A strategy and plan was produced to clearly mark out the key stages and detailed work required in order to successfully complete the project. Each stage included supplier/customer reviews and training where necessary, to facilitate the knowledge transfer of the solution and physical to virtual conversion process.

The Project was completed to the customer’s satisfaction, reducing their hardware footprint substantially and improving their data centre OPEX costs.
